Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Mini Matte Lipstick Set – Nudes’ Review

Hello and Welcome!

I hope that you’ve had a fantastic Sunday and your week has been amazing! I’m sorry for how late this review is going up, it wasn’t pre-written and I always underestimate how long my reviews take to write. As I didn’t post twice last week, this will be my third post of this week to make it up to you.

As someone who’s obsessed with lipstick, when I saw the ‘Mini Matte Lipstick Set’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) popping up all over my Instagram, I had to have it! The set contains 4 mini nude lipsticks from ABH. I’d say that they mostly lean towards the pink-nude side – my favourite type of nude.

I bought the set from Cult Beauty for £18.70. It retails for £22.00 but I found a discount code for 15% off, which is why I paid £18.70.

Now, sometimes mini sets like this don’t actually work out as a deal. So, I worked out if this set was actually worth the money, before I bought it. Each mini lipstick contains 1.3g, working out at a total of 5.2g for the whole set. This would make it roughly £4.23 per gram. The full-sized ABH lipsticks contain 3.5g and retail for £18.00. Making the full-sized lipsticks around £5.14 per gram. So, this set technically works out cheaper per gram than the full-sized versions. If you can find a code for a discount (I tend to just Google), then obviously this becomes an even better deal. Additionally, this set means you get to try out different shades to see what you like, and test the formula if you haven’t used ABH lipsticks before – which is why I bought this set. For me, spending £18.00 on a lipstick where I’m unsure about the formula, or what colour will suit me, is just too much, so I’m glad that this set exists.

The set contains the following shades:

  • Soft Pink (1.3g) – Bright pink
  • Kiss (1.3g) – Rosy petal pink nude
  • Spice (1.3g) – Deep rose
  • Dead Roses (1.3g) – Pink-mauve

Packaging and Swatches

The lipsticks come in a super luxe feeling, and looking, box. The box itself is really well made and sturdy. It’s gold on the outside with black writing, and has a tray on the inside with the bullet lipsticks placed inside. I really love this packaging – I’m a sucker for gold, what can I say. I will be keeping it, that’s how much I like it. However, as with any set I buy online, it’s much smaller than I thought it would be. The package fitted through the letterbox.

The lipsticks themselves have black lids with gold bases. The name of the brand is embossed into each lipstick’s cap. Just like the box, these feel and look very luxurious. The attention to detail is fantastic with the brand on the cap, and the brand logo on the main lipstick component (you’ll see what I mean in a second). I love this packaging, they’re some of the nicest looking lipsticks I own.

As you can see from the swatches, whilst all of these lipsticks can be categorised as ‘nudes’, they’re all pink-toned, and of varying colours. ‘Soft pink’ is probably my least favourite colour, since I don’t really tend to wear super light pink tones. ‘Dead Roses’ is definitely my favourite colour from the collection, and I’ve been wearing it a lot since I got it. They all swatched well, and how small the lipstick is makes it easy to be precise with the application.

‘Soft Pink’

This colour just isn’t for me. I’ve owned a couple of colours similar in the past and just never use them. I don’t feel like they suit me very well and they just aren’t my thing. I tend to go for more muted, or dusty, pinks, instead of vibrant ones like this.

I did recently see Alyssa (alyssamarieartistry on Instagram), who works for ABH, use this lipstick in a tutorial and she looked amazing. I’m not really sure why it doesn’t look good on me but I can’t say that I’ll be reaching for it often. I have used it in the centre of ‘Dead Roses’ once and it looked good, so I think I’ll use it to create an ombre in the future. However, I won’t be wearing this alone.

‘Kiss’

Again, this isn’t a colour I find myself gravitating towards a lot. I don’t tend to use super light nudes, with the exception of Kylie Cosmetics ‘Maliboo’ when I have heavy eye makeup. However, I think I will get a lot of use out of this shade because I do really like how it looked on me. I’ll certainly use up the entire small bullet of it that I have.

I don’t really have much to say about this one shade-wise. It’s the lightest of the bunch but I don’t think it’s so light that it wouldn’t suit a lot of people.

‘Spice’

Okay now we’re getting into the two shades from the collection that I love. This one reminds me of the Kylie Cosmetics ‘Ginger’ lip kit that I wear a lot. I think this shade is really flattering on me and suits my skin tone really well. I know that I will definitely get a lot of use out of this shade, and if I continue liking the formula of these ABH lipsticks, then it’s likely that I’ll buy full-sized version.

‘Dead Roses’

This is my absolute favourite shade from this entire collection. I do think it leans towards the purple side, rather than pink. However, I don’t own a shade like this and I really love it. Again, I think it’s flattering on my skin tone and it just makes me feel great. Plus, there’s something satisfying about saying you’re wearing ‘dead roses’ if someone asks what lipstick you’re wearing. This is one of those shades that just make me feel badass  – who doesn’t need a lipstick that makes you feel like you could conquer the world.

I will definitely use this entire bullet, and I will purchase the full-sized shade when I’m done.

Overall, I think this set is fantastic. I love the colours and will definitely use up 3/4 of the lipsticks. Personally, I find sets like this extremely helpful – they let you try out different colours and formulas to see what works for you, without having to commit to buying the full-sized version. The formula for all of these is the same, and I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest formula I’ve tried. I find that applying them, they do tug slightly so I wouldn’t say that they glides over the lips, and I wouldn’t describe them as creamy. However, they’re super pigmented and they wear well (but are not transfer-proof) throughout the day. They are a little on the drying side, but nothing unbearable if you’ve moisturised/exfoliated beforehand. As this set is called ‘nudes’, I’m hoping that this means ABH are planning on bringing out more sets like this. If they do, I will definitely buy some other variations – I would love for there to be a reds set, and a more vampy set with darker shades. I think these are great to work out which shades you like. Especially as these work out cheaper per gram than the full-sized ones. Additionally, I’ve never finished an entire lipstick, so these being smaller is actually a good thing for me.

If you think that you’d like to try this set (I’d highly recommend it, if you’d get use out of the shades) then you can purchase it from Beauty Bay here. Also be sure to always keep a look out for discount codes!

So this brings us to the end of this review, I really hope that you enjoyed it! After seeing this set everywhere, I couldn’t help but grab it for myself to review, and I’m glad that I did. If you did enjoy reading, then please give this post a quick like. Additionally, be sure to follow my blog if you think that it’s something that you’d like to read in the future – I post twice a week.
