Hello and Welcome!

This is a post I’ve been excited to write. I’ve posted a couple of looks using this palette and people have been interested to see the swatches so today I’ll be reviewing it.

I was super lucky to get this palette for my birthday from my incredible boyfriend. I wrote about it on my beauty wish list towards the end of November but I was really surprised to get it on my birthday – I definitely wasn’t expecting it!

Each palette retails for £25.00. I actually didn’t realise how many of these ‘Obsessions’ themed palettes there were, but there are (including this one) nine – they are:

• ‘Amethyst Obsessions’ – pink and purple shades (six shimmers, three mattes)
• ‘Ruby Obsessions’ – red and purple shades (five shimmers, four mattes)
• ‘Topaz Obsessions’ – orange and brown shades (four shimmers, five mattes)
• ‘Mauve Obsessions’ – pink and taupe shades (three shimmers, six mattes)
• ‘Sapphire Obsessions’ – blues, teals, and one yellow shade (five shimmers, four mattes)
• ‘Emerald Obsessions’ – greens ranging from light to dark (six shimmers, three mattes)
• ‘Warm Brown Obsessions’ – warm browns ranging from deep brown to gold (one shimmer, eight mattes)
• ‘Coral Obsessions’ – orange and pink tones (two shimmers, seven mattes)
• ‘Gemstone Obsessions’ – a range of colours including white, blue, teal, purple, and orange (all nine are shimmers)

Packaging

The photos above show the packaging for this palette. It comes with a clear plastic sleeve over it which I don’t care for. It’s pretty unnecessary in my opinion, it only has the weight of the product and some other small information about the palette printed on it. In my opinion it’s a waste of plastic and isn’t needed, if it needs something extra I’d prefer to have a box (or anything else that isn’t plastic).

The palette itself is purple with the brand and product name on the front in white, it also has a gemstone on the front made up of the colours inside which is really pretty. Inside there are the nine shades as well as a pretty decently sized mirror (compared to the size of the palette). It closes via a magnet and has a strong closure meaning that it doesn’t ever fall open.

The first thing that struck me about this palette was how tiny it is, as you can see in the photo below, the palette is roughly the size of my hand. I did think it would be bigger for the price but it has grown on me. The mirror is nice and means it’s great for travelling. I’ve actually been using the mirror in this palette for doing my makeup as the palette is easier to hold than some of my other palettes that contain mirrors.

Shades & Swatches

Above shows the swatches from the palette. These were made by putting my finger into the shade and passing it across my arm once.

Whilst the pigmentation is good, I wouldn’t say that it’s the most pigmented palette I’ve swatched. The shimmer shades are more pigmented and creamy than the mattes but overall the palette swatches well.

In terms of shades, I think the palette leans more towards being pink than purple. Whilst there are some purple shades, I’d say at least half of them are more pink-toned. The middle shade in the palette is super interesting, it’s a duo-chrome and is really beautiful.

Eye Look

I wanted to create an eye-look which used only shades from the palette to really get a feel for how this palette looks, and works.

I ended up using almost all of the shades in the palette and I do really like how it turned out. I naturally gravitate more towards pink and purple toned eyeshadows – if I’m going out somewhere then I typically do a pink eye look, you could say it’s my go-to. This palette just called to me more than the others when I saw it.

Whilst I do like how this eye look turned out, and I definitely would use the palette alone again, I have found myself using just a couple of the shades in the palette alongside another palette. I’d also quite like to get some of the other ‘Obsessions’ palettes to use together!

Thoughts

These shadows are super pigmented and blend beautifully. The matte shades are particularly great to blend and I’ve found myself using the light pink matte shadow in the bottom left a lot. The shimmers are soft and creamy and they look absolutely stunning on the eye. This is the first Huda Beauty palette I’ve used and I’m very impressed, the quality of the shadows is great.

One thing that gives me mixed feelings is the price of the palette in relation to the size. The palette is so small, it’s one of the smallest that I own, but I’d say that £25 is quite a lot to pay. I feel like it’s right on the edge of being too expensive in my opinion which is why I’m torn about how I feel about it. You only get 10g of product, but you do get a mirror, and it would be an amazing palette to travel with. I would say that £25 is okay for the palette, and I would want to pick up some more of these. However, I would say only get it if you’re sure you would like it/use those shades. Unlike other palettes, since these are themed, you don’t get a diverse range of colours so make sure that £25 is being well spent!

Overall, I do think this is worth it if you have the money to spend. I would say though that if you don’t need a palette with a mirror, or don’t plan on travelling with palettes, they maybe look for a cheaper palette (e.g. I’d say Makeup Revolution, or Wet n Wild would be good). However, if you do want a palette with a mirror, do a lot of travelling, and really like the colour theme of some of these palettes, then I’d say get one of these as the quality of the shadows and pigmentation is really good – they’re easy to use and relatively stress-free to create a nice eye look with.
